Target Information
SRC is a cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase and proto-oncogene involved in the regulation of embryonic development and cell growth. It regulates growth and differentiation of eukaryotic cells, associates with cytoplasmic regions of various cell surface receptors to facilitate signal transduction, and contributes to cytoskeletal organization, cell cycle regulation, and apoptosis.
In humans, SRC is encoded on chromosome 20. Its activity is regulated by phosphorylation of two tyrosine residues (Tyr416 and Tyr527), which exert opposing effects: phosphorylation of Tyr416 activates SRC, while phosphorylation of Tyr527 inhibits it. Mutations in SRC may be associated with malignant progression of colon cancer. Two transcript variants encoding the same SRC protein have been identified.
