This gene encodes a member of the WD repeat protein family. WD repeats are conserved regions (~40 amino acids) bracketed by gly-his and trp-asp (GH-WD), facilitating formation of multiprotein complexes. Members of this family are involved in cellular processes such as:

- Signal transduction
- Apoptosis
- Gene regulation
The protein contains two bromodomains and multiple WD repeats. Its precise function is unknown. The gene is located within the Down syndrome region 2 on chromosome 21. Alternative splicing generates three transcript variants diverging at the 3′ ends.
