FZD4는 frizzled 유전자 패밀리의 구성원으로, Wingless type MMTV integration site 패밀리의 신호 단백질 수용체 역할을 하는 7-막관통 도메인 단백질을 암호화합니다. 대부분의 frizzled 수용체는 β-catenin canonical signaling pathway에 결합되어 있으며, FZD4는 이 경로의 양성 조절자로 작용할 수 있습니다.
Frizzled 4는 심장, 골격근, 난소, 태아 신장에서 특히 많이 발현되며, 간, 신장, 췌장, 비장, 태아 폐에서도 발현이 확인되었습니다. 또한 소량으로 태반, 성인 폐, 전립선, 고환, 결장, 태아 뇌에서도 검출됩니다.
