It regulates gene expression and repression, contributing to the formation of motoneurons, oligodendrocytes, and insulin-secreting beta cells. NKX6.1 interacts with Pax6 and Pdx-1 near its homeobox DNA-binding domain. It is a key target for diabetes and neurological disease research.
