PAX7 유전자는 paired box (PAX) 전사인자 패밀리에 속하며, paired box domain, octapeptide, paired-type homeodomain을 포함합니다. 이 유전자군은 태아 발달과 암 성장에서 중요한 역할을 합니다. PAX7의 구체적 기능은 명확히 밝혀지지 않았으나, forkhead 도메인 패밀리 유전자와의 융합이 alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma와 관련되어 종양 억제 기능을 가질 것으로 추정됩니다. 세 가지 전사 변이체가 보고되어 있습니다.
