Specificity: Recognises human CD4.
Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper cells but may also be found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Tissue-level expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and specific regions of the brain and gut. CD4 plays a critical role in T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and tyrosine kinase Lck, and may contribute to neuronal damage in immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
