Target Information
The ATP1A1 gene encodes the alpha 1 subunit of the Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase, a P-type cation transport ATPase. This enzyme maintains electrochemical gradients of Na⁺ and K⁺ ions across the plasma membrane, essential for osmoregulation, sodium-coupled transport, and electrical excitability of nerve and muscle cells. The enzyme consists of a large catalytic alpha subunit and a smaller glycoprotein beta subunit. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
