Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, controlling cell growth and differentiation. MAP2K1 is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane depolarization, and calcium influx. Phosphorylation at serine 218 and 222 by Raf1 activates MEK1. It participates in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation. Mutations in the gene can cause cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
