Target Information
BCAS1 was identified through positional cloning and found to be overexpressed in most breast cancer cell lines. It is cytoplasmically localized and likely forms homodimers via coiled-coil structures. High BCAS1 mRNA expression is observed in brain and prostate tissues, with lower levels in colon, intestine, and testis. Overexpression does not alter anchorage-dependent growth, indicating BCAS1 is not a typical oncogene. Amplification has also been observed in pancreatic carcinoma, suggesting a role in cell proliferation control.
