Target Information

WW domain-containing proteins are found in all eukaryotes and play an important role in regulating cellular functions such as protein degradation, transcription, and RNA splicing.
This gene encodes a protein containing two WW domains and a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase (SRD) domain.
High expression is observed in hormonally regulated tissues (testis, ovary, prostate), suggesting a role in steroid metabolism.
The protein shares over 90% identity with the mouse ortholog, which mediates TNF-alpha-induced apoptosis, implying a similar apoptotic role in humans.
It may also act as a tumor suppressor. Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms.
