Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein comprising about half of the blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps stabilize extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein (~65 kDa), synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin. After cleavage of the N-terminal peptide and processing in the Golgi vesicles, mature albumin is secreted.
