L3MBTL1은 초파리에서 신경모세포의 악성 변형을 억제하는 단백질로 확인된 단백질의 상동체입니다. 이 단백질은 유사분열 세포의 응축된 염색체에 위치하며, 과발현 시 핵 분리와 세포질분열 이상을 유발합니다. L3MBTL1은 polycomb group 유전자로, 염색질 변형을 통해 유전자 활성을 조절하는 기능을 합니다. 이 단백질은 단일 및 이중 메틸라이신 잔기를 인식하여 후번역 수정 네트워크의 ‘reader’ 역할을 수행합니다. 다양한 isoform을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
