Target Information
CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor involved in regulation of T cell and B cell signaling through immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). Upon kinase-mediated phosphorylation, these motifs provide docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases.
CD31 is expressed ubiquitously within the vascular compartment, mainly at junctions between adjacent endothelial cells. Its N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, playing a crucial role in cell–cell interactions.
CD31 functions in modulation of integrin-mediated adhesion, transendothelial migration, angiogenesis, apoptosis, immune regulation, macrophage phagocytosis, IgE-mediated anaphylaxis, and thrombosis, making it a key regulatory molecule in the vascular system.
