XPD는 DNA 손상을 복구하는 뉴클레오타이드 절제 복구 경로에 관여하는 단백질입니다. 이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 전사 결합형 뉴클레오타이드 절제 복구에 관여하며, 기본 전사 인자 BTF2/TFIIH 복합체의 구성 요소입니다. ATP 의존성 DNA 헬리케이스 활성을 가지며 RAD3/XPD 헬리케이스 하위 패밀리에 속합니다. 이 유전자의 결함은 색소성 건피증 D형, 트리코티오디스트로피, Cockayne 증후군과 같은 질환을 유발할 수 있습니다. 다양한 이형 단백질을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사 변이체가 보고되어 있습니다.
