Smooth Muscle Actin은 세포 운동성, 구조, 무결성 유지에 중요한 역할을 하는 actin 단백질군에 속합니다.
Alpha, beta, gamma actin 아이소폼 중 alpha actin은 수축성 구조의 주요 성분이며, beta와 gamma actin은 세포 운동 조절에 관여합니다.
Smooth muscle actin은 주로 평활근 세포에서 발견되며, 근수축과 세포 이동, 세포질분열에 관여합니다.
혈관벽, 장벽, 자궁근층, 유선 및 침샘의 근상피세포 등에서 발현됩니다.
Smooth muscle actin 유전자의 결함은 가족성 흉부 대동맥류(type 6)를 유발할 수 있습니다.
Alpha-smooth muscle actin은 혈관 및 내장 평활근 세포에 풍부하며, 상처 치유나 섬유수축성 질환과 같은 병리적 상황에서 섬유아세포의 스트레스 섬유에서도 발현됩니다.
여러 가지 대체 스플라이싱 변형체가 확인되었습니다.
