CHMP3는 endosomal sorting required for transport complex III (ESCRT-III)의 핵심 구성 요소로, multivesicular bodies (MVBs) 형성과 내재화된 단백질의 분류에 관여합니다.
MVB는 내강 소포(ILV)를 포함하며, 이는 엔도솜 막에서 내함 및 절단되어 형성됩니다. 이 과정은 막 단백질(예: 성장 인자 수용체, 리소좀 효소, 지질)의 분해를 가능하게 합니다.
ESCRT-III 단백질은 ILV 방출 전에 막으로부터 해리되며, 세포질분열의 말기나 바이러스 출아(HIV-1 등)와 같은 막 절단 과정에도 관여합니다.
CHMP3는 PtdIns(3,5)P2 및 PtdIns(3,4)P2에 선택적으로 결합하며, EGF receptor의 엔도솜 분류 및 수송 과정에 관여합니다.
