Target Information
Transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that functions as a transporter of thyroxine and retinol-binding protein. It is primarily synthesized in the liver and secreted into the plasma. TTR constitutes approximately 25% of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein, suggesting selective transport across the blood-CSF barrier or synthesis within the central nervous system. It is associated with neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and amyloid lesions in senile cerebral amyloidosis. Over 40 mutations in the TTR gene have been linked to amyloid deposition disorders.
