PRMT5 (protein arginine N-methyltransferase 5)는 아르기닌 메틸트랜스퍼라아제로서 omega-N monomethylarginine (MMA) 및 symmetrical dimethylarginine (sDMA)의 형성을 촉매하며, MMA 형성에 우선성을 가집니다. PRMT5는 Sm D1 및 Sm D3 소핵 리보핵단백질에서 아르기닌 잔기의 대칭적 디메틸화를 매개하며, 이러한 메틸화는 snRNP 핵심 입자의 조립 및 생합성에 필수적입니다.
