Target Information
Napsin 1 is an aspartic protease predominantly expressed in the lung, and also found in kidney and metastatic carcinomas. It processes surfactant protein B in pulmonary and renal tissues, but its regulation changes during carcinogenesis. Napsin evaluation aids in identifying cancers and differentiating primary tumors from metastases. When combined with thyroid transcription factor analysis, it serves as a specific biomarker for carcinoma differentiation. Napsin is also associated with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis and protein catabolism in renal tubules.
