Product Specific Information

This antibody is suitable for use in direct ELISA assays. In an A549/EMCV (cell/virus) assay system, this antibody does not neutralize the cytopathic inhibitory effect of human IFN beta.

Store at -20°C for short-term use (less than 6 months). For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -70°C or below for retention of full activity. Refreezing should be done on dry ice or in a dry ice/alcohol bath. Further dilution of the product should be in buffers containing protein such as 0.1% BSA.

Target Information

Type I Interferons (IFN-alpha/beta) are produced primarily in response to viral infection by Natural IFN-producing cells (IPCs) as part of the host immune response. IFNs can also inhibit the development of tumors. IFN-beta binding results in the activation of the tyrosine kinases Jak1 and Tyk2, phosphorylation of members of the STAT family of transcription factors, and the transcription and expression of the immune response genes. Several members of the toll-like receptor (TLR) family were found to stimulate the production of IFN-beta. IFN-beta is currently used clinically for treatment of tumors, infections, and multiple sclerosis.
