Target Information

Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses: one utilizing NAD and the other NADP as electron acceptors. Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported—three NAD-dependent (mitochondrial matrix) and two NADP-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic). The NADP-dependent mitochondrial isozyme encoded by this gene plays a role in intermediary metabolism and energy production, and may associate with the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
