Target Information
The HSP70 family consists of highly conserved proteins induced by various biological stresses, including heat stress, across many organisms.
Human HSP70 family members include:
- HSP70: Strongly inducible and constitutively expressed in primate cells
- HSP72: Induced exclusively under stress conditions
- HSC70 (also known as HSC71, HSC73, HSP73, p72, prp73): Constitutively expressed 72 kDa protein involved in uncoating clathrin-coated vesicles and cytoskeletal rearrangements
- GRP78 (BiP): Glucose-regulated 78 kDa protein localized in the endoplasmic reticulum
- p75 (HSP75): 75 kDa protein found within mitochondria
HSC70 is slightly heat-inducible, binds to clathrin light chain loops to promote uncoating, and can associate with the cytoskeleton. It also stimulates lysosomal degradation of intracellular proteins and modulates folding of mitochondrial precursor proteins in vitro.
