Target Information
Integrin alpha-7 is a protein encoded by the ITGA7 gene in humans, mapped to 12q13.2.
This protein is part of the integrin alpha chain family, forming heterodimeric integral membrane proteins with beta chains.
It mediates cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, playing roles in:
- Cell migration
- Morphologic development
- Differentiation
- Metastasis
Integrin alpha-7 acts as a receptor for laminin-1, mainly expressed in skeletal and cardiac muscles, and may be involved in differentiation and migration during myogenesis.
Defects in this gene are associated with congenital myopathy.
