Target Information

Fibroblast growth factor 4 (FGF4) is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family with broad mitogenic and cell survival activities. It plays key roles in stem cell growth and survival during embryogenesis, tissue regeneration, and carcinogenesis. FGF4 is a potent angiogenic factor expressed in highly vascularized tumors and adult mouse testis, intestine, and brain. Mouse homolog studies suggest roles in bone morphogenesis and limb development via the sonic hedgehog (SHH) signaling pathway. Additionally, FGF4 regulates neural progenitor proliferation and neuronal differentiation. Recent findings indicate a growth-promoting role in human embryonic stem cells and a feedback inhibition mechanism via a novel splice isoform.
