Target Information
The BAD (BCL2-antagonist of cell death) protein is a member of the BCL-2 family, known as regulators of programmed cell death. BAD positively regulates apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their anti-apoptotic activity. Its proapoptotic function is controlled through phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, as well as phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
