Target Information
DKK-1 is a member of the DKK protein family (DKK-1, DKK-2, DKK-3, DKK-4). It was first identified as a Xenopus head-forming molecule acting as a Wnt signaling antagonist. DKK-1 and DKK-4 regulate Wnt/β-catenin signaling by forming inhibitory complexes with LRP5 and LRP6, co-receptors essential for Wnt signaling. Inhibition of Wnt/β-catenin signaling by DKK-1 supports anterior development, as DKK-1-deficient mice lack head formation and die during embryogenesis.
