Target Information
The C/EBP (CCAAT/enhancer binding protein) family of transcription factors—alpha, beta, delta, and epsilon—are widely expressed proteins found in various tissues. These domains contain an evolutionarily conserved five-amino acid motif (RDM) with the consensus sequence (I/V/L)KXEP.
C/EBP proteins play key roles in metabolic regulation in liver and fat cells and act in cascades aiding adipose cell development.
Three C/EBP beta isoforms (LAP*, LAP, and LIP) arise from different translation initiation and display distinct functions in gene regulation.
C/EBPs have also been implicated in nerve growth factor mediation, synaptic plasticity, and inflammatory response in Alzheimer’s disease.
