Target Information
Casein kinase II (CK2) is a protein serine/threonine kinase found in all eukaryotic cells, indicating its fundamental cellular functions. The holoenzyme is a tetramer composed of two catalytic (alpha or alpha-prime) and two regulatory beta subunits. The alpha subunit serves as the catalytic unit, while the beta subunit’s function remains unclear. CK2 can phosphorylate various signaling proteins involved in tumor suppression (p53, PTEN) and tumorigenesis (myc, jun, NF-κB). It also participates in Wnt signaling via β-catenin phosphorylation and in the PI3K pathway through Akt phosphorylation.
