Target Information
CD133 (AC133) is a 97 kDa glycoprotein with five transmembrane domains, appearing as a 120 kDa band on SDS-PAGE due to glycosylation. It is a cell surface marker expressed in immature hematopoietic stem cells but not in mature blood cells. Additionally, CD133 serves as a marker for neural and embryonic stem cells and is expressed in various cancers, including leukemias and brain tumors. Low-level expression is also observed in kidney, pancreas, placenta, and fetal liver. Mutations in CD133 are linked to retinitis pigmentosa and Stargardt disease. The gene is regulated by multiple tissue-specific promoters and produces several isoforms.
