This antibody specifically recognizes the beta-subunit of hCG and does not cross-react with hLH, hTSH, or hFSH.
Target Information
hCG beta is the beta chain of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a 40 kDa glycoprotein hormone produced by trophoblastic cells of the placenta beginning 10–12 days after conception.
hCG consists of non-covalently associated alpha and beta subunits. The alpha subunit is similar to those of pituitary hormones (FSH, LH, TSH), while the beta subunit confers biological specificity.
During early pregnancy, hCG maintains the corpus luteum, stimulating progesterone production to sustain the endometrium.
hCG levels are low in non-pregnant individuals but rise sharply during pregnancy.
Diseases associated with hCG dysfunction include gestational trophoblastic tumor and hydatidiform mole.
