Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family, which regulates various cellular processes such as growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. PTPN7 is preferentially expressed in hematopoietic cells and acts as an early response gene in lymphokine-stimulated cells. Its noncatalytic N-terminus interacts with MAP kinases and suppresses their activity, playing a role in T-cell antigen receptor signaling through dephosphorylation of MAP kinase pathway molecules. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
