Target Information
TDP43 was first identified as a novel cellular protein that binds to the HIV-1 TAR DNA sequence and acts as a transcriptional repressor of the HIV-1 LTR. It also regulates the splicing of exon 9 of the CFTR gene through association with UG repeats at the 3' splice site. Pathologic TDP43, a hyperphosphorylated and ubiquitinated form, is the major disease protein in ubiquitin-positive, tau-, and alpha-synuclein-negative frontotemporal dementia (FLTD-U). TDP43 is distinct from TRBP1, another RNA-binding protein that interacts with HIV-1 TAR RNA sequences.
