Target Information
This gene product belongs to the nuclear receptor superfamily, whose members function as transcription factors with ligand-binding and DNA-binding domains. The encoded protein regulates the cytochrome P450 gene CYP3A4, binding to its promoter as a heterodimer with the 9-cis retinoic acid receptor (RXR). It is activated by compounds such as dexamethasone and rifampicin that induce CYP3A4 expression. Several alternatively spliced transcripts and isoforms have been described, some using non-AUG initiation codons. Additional transcript variants exist but are not fully characterized.
