Target Information
The TYR-related proteins TRP1 and TRP2 are specifically expressed in melanocytes and contribute to melanin synthesis within melanosomes. These TRPs, including TYR, share a similar transmembrane region, contain two metal-binding regions and a cysteine-rich epidermal growth factor motif, and are localized in the melanosomal membrane. Although they share structural similarities, they have distinct catalytic activities and individually contribute to melanin biopolymer biosynthesis. TRPs are believed to form a multi-enzyme complex, where TRP1 expression helps stabilize TYR in melanocytes.
