E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin)은 칼슘 의존성 세포-세포 부착 단백질로, cadherin superfamily에 속합니다. 이 단백질은 5개의 세포외 cadherin 반복 영역, 막 관통 영역, 그리고 보존된 세포질 꼬리로 구성되어 있습니다.
CDH1 유전자의 돌연변이는 위암, 유방암, 대장암, 갑상선암 및 난소암과 관련이 있으며, E-cadherin의 발현 감소 또는 손실은 종양의 침습성과 전이 가능성 증가와 상관관계가 있습니다.
E-cadherin은 세포 성장과 조직 구조 유지에 중요한 역할을 하며, 인간에서는 염색체 16번에 위치한 CDH1 유전자에 의해 암호화됩니다.
