배경 정보

This gene encodes a member of the subtilisin-like proprotein convertase family, including proteases that process protein and peptide precursors in secretory pathways. The protein undergoes autocatalytic processing in the ER to form a heterodimer, which then moves to the trans-Golgi network for further activation. It is constitutively secreted and expressed in tissues such as neuroendocrine, liver, gut, and brain. PCSK6 cleaves substrates at single or paired basic residues, including TGF-β related proteins, proalbumin, and von Willebrand factor. It may play roles in tumor progression and left-right patterning.
