Target Information

GLRA1 is a subunit of a pentameric inhibitory glycine receptor, mediating postsynaptic inhibition in the central nervous system.
Defects in GLRA1 are associated with startle disease (STHE), also known as hereditary hyperekplexia or congenital stiff-person syndrome.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
Glycine receptors (GlyR) containing GLRA1 belong to the cys-loop family of ligand-gated ion channels, responsible for mediating the inhibitory effects of glycine.
GLRA1 is widely distributed throughout the CNS, particularly in the hippocampus, spinal cord, and brain stem.
Diseases associated with GLRA1 include Hyperekplexia, Hereditary 1 and Hyperekplexia.
