Target Information
IL-15 (Interleukin 15) is a cytokine that regulates T and natural killer (NK) cell activation and proliferation.
IL-15 and IL-2 share common receptor subunits and may negatively regulate each other’s activity. The balance between IL-15 and IL-2 controls the number of CD8+ memory cells.
IL-15 induces activation of JAK kinases and phosphorylation of STAT3, STAT5, and STAT6. In mouse studies, IL-15 may increase expression of apoptosis inhibitor Bcl-xL via STAT6 activation, preventing apoptosis.
IL-15 plays a key role in the growth and differentiation of T and B lymphocytes, NK cells, macrophages, and monocytes, and is involved in intracellular signaling pathways. It is essential for immune responses, allograft rejection, and autoimmune disease pathogenesis.
As a pro-inflammatory cytokine, IL-15 is implicated in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and pulmonary inflammatory diseases. IL-15 neutralization shows potential therapeutic benefits in models of psoriasis and diabetes.
