Target Information
This gene belongs to a family of Sp1-related genes that encode transcription factors regulating transcription by binding to consensus GC- and GT-box elements in target genes. The protein contains a zinc finger DNA-binding domain and several transactivation domains, functioning as a bifunctional transcription factor that can either stimulate or repress transcription of numerous genes. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described, including one initiating translation from a non-AUG (AUA) start codon. Additional isoforms from alternate downstream initiation sites have also been reported. A related pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 13.
