| Background | This gene encodes a protein involved in cytokinesis. The protein is abundant during the S and G2/M phases of mitosis but decreases sharply as cells enter G1. It localizes to the nucleus during interphase, associates dynamically with mitotic spindles during mitosis, and concentrates at the mid-body during cytokinesis. It serves as a substrate for several cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) and is essential for polarizing microtubules and assembling the contractile ring.
