Background

This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif, the F-box. The F-box proteins are part of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex SCFs (SKP1-cullin-F-box), which function in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. F-box proteins are classified into three groups: Fbws (containing WD-40 domains), Fbls (containing leucine-rich repeats), and Fbxs (containing other protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs). The FBXO7 protein belongs to the Fbxs class and may play a role in the regulation of hematopoiesis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified, with the full-length nature determined for only some variants (RefSeq, Jul 2008).
