Background
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases catalyze the aminoacylation of tRNA with their cognate amino acids. These enzymes play a central role in linking amino acids to nucleotide triplets in tRNAs and are considered among the earliest proteins in evolution. Human TyrRS exhibits cytokine activities when cleaved into two fragments: the N-terminal fragment acts as an interleukin-8-like cytokine, and the C-terminal fragment functions as an EMAP II-like cytokine.
