Target Information
Carbonic anhydrase (CA) is an enzyme that catalyzes the rapid interconversion of carbon dioxide and water into carbonic acid, protons, and bicarbonate ions. It is abundant in mammalian tissues and plays a key role in pH regulation through hydrogen ion flux.
CA IX is a hypoxia-inducible gene regulated by HIF-1α and serves as a reliable histochemical marker of hypoxia. Inhibition of CA IX can increase cell death under hypoxic conditions.
