Target Information
CDC25A is a member of the CDC25 family of phosphatases. Three CDC25 genes (CDC25A, CDC25B, CDC25C) are present in human cells, functioning at different phases of the cell cycle.
CDC25A is required for progression through G1 and S phases by activating the cyclin-dependent kinase CDC2 through dephosphorylation.
It is specifically degraded in response to DNA damage, preventing cells with chromosomal abnormalities from dividing.
CDC25A is considered an oncogene, though its exact role in oncogenesis has not been fully demonstrated.
