ADAM12은 ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease-like domain) 패밀리에 속하는 단백질로, ADAM12S(Short form)와 ADAM12L(Long form)의 두 가지 형태가 존재합니다.
Short form은 세포막 및 세포질 도메인이 결여된 가용성 형태로, 근육 형성(myogenesis)을 유도하는 것으로 보고되었습니다. 두 형태 모두 동일 조직 내에서 발현될 수 있으나, 세포질 도메인의 존재 여부에 따라 조절 경로가 다를 수 있습니다.
