SLC27A4 유전자는 긴 사슬 지방산을 세포막을 통해 운반하는 지방산 수송 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다. 이 단백질은 소장의 성숙한 장세포(apical side)에 높은 수준으로 발현되며, 주요 지방산 수송체로 작용합니다. 임상 연구에서는 이 유전자가 인슐린 저항성 증후군의 후보 유전자로 제안되었으며, 돌연변이는 ichthyosis prematurity syndrome과 관련이 있습니다.
