Target Information
Adaptins are essential components of clathrin-coated vesicles that transport ligand-receptor complexes from the plasma membrane or the trans-Golgi network to lysosomes. The adaptin family includes four classes: alpha, beta, beta-prime, and gamma adaptins. Together with medium and small subunits, adaptins form heterotetrameric adaptor complexes that promote the formation of clathrin-coated pits and vesicles. The encoded protein is a gamma-adaptin, belonging to the adaptor complexes large subunit family. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
