Target Information
Otoferlin is a protein encoded by the OTOF gene in humans. Mutations in this gene cause neurosensory nonsyndromic recessive deafness (DFNB9).
The short form of the protein has three C2 domains and one carboxy-terminal transmembrane domain, similar to C. elegans FER-1 and human dysferlin.
The long form has six C2 domains, suggesting involvement in vesicle membrane fusion.
Several transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been identified.
