Target Information
PTGS1 (COX1, Cyclooxygenase 1) is the key enzyme in prostaglandin biosynthesis, acting both as a dioxygenase and a peroxidase. There are two isozymes of PTGS: constitutive PTGS1 and inducible PTGS2, differing in regulation and tissue distribution. PTGS1 regulates angiogenesis in endothelial cells and is inhibited by NSAIDs such as aspirin. It is involved in cell signaling and tissue homeostasis. Alternative splicing generates two transcript variants, differentially regulated by cytokines and growth factors.
