Target Information
The zinc transporter ZIP12 (SLC39A12) is a member of the divalent ion transporter family. Zinc is essential for cellular growth, development, and differentiation. The zinc transporter family is divided into four subfamilies: I, II, LIV-1, and gufA. ZIP12, a multipass membrane protein of the LIV-1 subfamily, shows increased expression during airway inflammation and asthma, suggesting a role in zinc uptake and inflammation reduction. Lower brain zinc levels and ZIP12 mutations have been observed in some schizophrenia patients, indicating potential involvement in the disease.
